Morning Message of Motivation

The Family of Israel: 16
By Rev Robert Ampiah-Kwofi

Jacob journeyed and finally arrived in Padan Aram.
Genesis 29:1 NKJV
“So Jacob went on his journey and came to the land of the people of the East.”

He found the well that served the town.
Genesis 29:2 NKJV
“And he looked, and saw a well in the field; and behold, there were three flocks of sheep lying by it; for out of that well they watered the flocks. A large stone was on the well’s mouth.”

Jacob asked some guys if they knew Laban, his mother’s brother.
Genesis 29:5 NKJV
“Then he said to them, “Do you know Laban the son of Nahor?” And they said, “We know him.”

Jacob enquired of Laban’s welfare.
Genesis 29:6 NKJV
“So he said to them, “Is he well?”
And they said, “He is well. And look, his daughter Rachel is coming with the sheep.”

Laban was well and his daughter Rachel was coming to water his sheep.
Genesis 29:9 NKJV
“Now while he was still speaking with them, Rachel came with her father’s sheep, for she was a shepherdess.”

They had a strange custom in the town.
All shepherds had to gather their flocks by the well, before they would roll away the huge boulder that covered the well. Jacob instantly knew it was a time wasting custom.
He asked them to change it.
Genesis 29:7b-8 NKJV
“Water the sheep, and go and feed them.”
But they said, “We cannot until all the flocks are gathered together, and they have rolled the stone from the well’s mouth; then we water the sheep.”

Some people had taken control over the well, by covering its mouth with a huge stone.
These “well controllers” had decided to open the well just once a day.
So they made all the flocks gather around the well before they would roll away the stone.
All the flocks would then be watered at the same time.
They would then close it again till the next day.
It was a time wasting system that was hindering the shepherding business.

May God empower you to overcome every time wasting devices of the enemy.
May you overrule every tradition that sets you back, in Jesus’ name.
